Lagavulin 16 Year Old
Lagavulin 16 Year Old is a true benchmark of Islay whisky, celebrated for its deep, complex and unmistakably maritime character. Rich and powerful, it combines layers of dried fruit, vanilla and warming sweetness with the distinctive smoky influence of Islay peat, reminiscent of the refined smokiness of Lapsang Souchong tea rather than a simple bonfire character.
Originally produced in other expressions, the 16 Year Old became Lagavulin’s signature release when it was introduced as part of Diageo’s Classic Malts range in the 1980s, cementing its reputation as the distillery’s flagship whisky. Its popularity was further enhanced through its association with actor Nick Offerman’s character Ron Swanson in Parks and Recreation, leading to several collaborations between Offerman and the distillery.
A whisky of great depth and intensity, Lagavulin 16 Year Old is a superb match for bold, savoury flavours, particularly salty blue cheeses, which complement its rich combination of peat smoke, sweetness and coastal character.
