‘The Johner family make wines in Baden, Germany, on their 18 hectare estate on the western side of the Kaiserstuhl. The domaine isn’t an ancient one, but was actually founded in the mid 1980s by Karl Heinz Johner, who the winery is named after. In 1985, after a decade spent abroad, Karl Heinz Johner and his wife Irene returned to their home village of Bischoffingen in the Kaiserstuhl to establish a small vineyard and winery. From the outset, Johner dedicated himself to crafting Burgundy-inspired wines defined by structure, finesse, and elegance.
Despite facing challenges linked to local winemaking conditions and German wine regulations, the Johner estate has earned a reputation as one of Germany’s finest, gaining widespread recognition among wine experts.
