Kaesler Old Vine Shiraz

The Old Vine Shiraz block at Nuriootpa, from which some of the fruit is sourced, was spawned from The Old Bastard vineyard (est 1893). The Old Bastard is genetic material that only exists in Australia, its parentage being lost to Phylloxera in Europe in the 1880’s. The fruit from these vineyards was sold to various wineries over the years and often finding a home in some of the Barossa’s most prestigious blends such as Grange itself. Kaesler Old Vine Shiraz has been consistently produced as an elegant wine, tight in its youth, a wine that is made to age. Full of cherry, mixed dark fruits, spice and cedar notes. This is a full bodied wine, with mouth-filling tannins, lifted with bright acidity.

Producer Profile

The Kaesler vineyards were owned and run by the Kaesler family from 1893 to 1986. In 1999, winemaker Reid Bosward seized the opportunity to become the head of the new Kaesler family when he and his partners bought Kaesler, becoming the third owners of this property. At this time, the Kaesler vineyards consisted of over 70% red wine vines, all 40 years of age or more. Now having access to premium old vine material, Reid set out to produce bold estate wines representative of the Barossa Valley.
