Matawhero New Zealand wine Tasting hosted by owner Kirsten Searle, 7pm Saturday 7th February, Quaff Hove
Matawhero Tasting, Quaff Hove, Sat 7th Feb, 7pm
Come and spend an evening with us to hear the inspiring story of Matawhero, a New Zealand wine institution that has been reborn!
Founded in Gisborne in the 1970s, Matawhero was a pioneering estate for decades under NZ winemaking icon Denis Irwin, but was in need of new energy. Cue the arrival in 2008 of Kirsten Searle and her new husband Richard, their three small children and assorted pets, to plug holes in the farmstead roof, replant and refurbish the vineyard and rebuild the winery from scratch.
Their wines are now back in the very top tier of what New Zealand has to offer. They have the obligatory Sauvignon Blanc, of course, but the interest really lies in the varieties that lean into NZ heritage of Alsace varieties of Gewurztraminer and Pinot Gris, along with some astonishingly good Chardonnay and a clean, pure Merlot.
Hosted by Kirsten, who is over from NZ for one week only, you will be shown through the full range Matawhero has to offer. These are now our best-selling New Zealand wines and we are huge fans. Come try them with us!
If you have any dietary requirements, please do let us know, we will try our best to accommodate.
If you are a group and booking separately, please let us know so we can make sure you sit together.
*We reserve the right not to issue refunds if you wish to cancel your ticket 7 days before the event commences. Please do let us know if you have problems attending, as these events normally sell-out and have a waiting list. We will try our best to resell your ticket.
Unfortunately we haven’t got enough space for dogs at our wine tastings.
